There are some important considerations to look out for when buying a monitor. 

  • Pixels (Picture Elements):  Images are formed by pixels
  • Dot Pitch:  The distance between pixels

Therefore, the more the pixels and the smaller the dot pitch, the better the resolution.

Types of Monitors

The 2 most common types of monitors are:

         CRT (Cathode-Ray Tube):  Conventional monitor

         LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) / Flat-panel monitor:  LCD monitors are portable monitors that use liquid crystals technology.  They are much thinner than CRT monitors.  Besides being portable and space-saving, I also find it more soothing to my eyes compared to CRT. 

Screen Size of Monitors

Screen sizes of monitors vary.  The most common ones are 15-inch, 17-inch (It makes quite a lot of difference with extra 2 viewable area from the 15-inch), 19-inch, and 21-inch.
